Sensible Diet Factsheet

If you are overweight or obese, you put yourself at risk of a range of health problems.  

A sensible diet plan will achieve results.

•  Set small, realistic goals - if you lose 1-2lb a week, that's 7lb a month or 3 stone in six months

•  Avoid faddy diets that promise amazing results

•  Try to spread your food evenly over the day: eat three meals a day, plus one or two timed snacks

•  Avoid grazing on high-fat, high-sugar snack foods such as chocolate, cakes, pastries, crisps and biscuits

•  Reduce intake of all fats and fried foods, including full-fat dairy products, fatty meat products, salad dressings and mayonnaise -choose reduced-fat alternatives

•  Eat less sugar and sweet foods, especially sugar-containing drinks, desserts and sweets

•  Reduce portion sizes

•  Cut right down on alcohol
