Sensible Diet Factsheet
If you are overweight or obese, you put yourself at risk of a range of health problems.
A sensible diet plan will achieve results.
Set small, realistic goals - if you lose 1-2lb a week, that's 7lb a month or 3 stone in six months
Avoid faddy diets that promise amazing results
Try to spread your food evenly over the day: eat three meals a day, plus one or two timed snacks
Avoid grazing on high-fat, high-sugar snack foods such as chocolate, cakes, pastries, crisps and biscuits
Reduce intake of all fats and fried foods, including full-fat dairy products, fatty meat products, salad dressings and mayonnaise -choose reduced-fat alternatives
Eat less sugar and sweet foods, especially sugar-containing drinks, desserts and sweets
Reduce portion sizes
Cut right down on alcohol
